Mosques and Churches in Kazan'
Out of Kazan's more than 30 churches and mosques, we have chosen twelve whose history we are examining closely. They have all been open for at least a period of time during the Soviet era, a few even have been functioning without interruption from 1917 to 1991. They will also be in the center of our interviews. Another focus lies on the religious buildings that were used with different purposes, i.e. as archives. Thirdly we are interested in religious buildings that were re-opened during Perestroika or after the end of the Soviet Union and again serve as churches or mosques today.
